Let your roots grow down into Christ Jesus, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.
Colossians 2:7 NLT
As we celebrate 250 years of God’s faithfulness to our church family, we remember how faithful believers gathered together with the desire to plant a community of worship, witness, and service. They could not have imagined all the changes the world would see across these centuries, nor could they have pictured us gathered here today. And yet, their prayers, their trust in God, and their commitment to Christ have produced fruit that continues to this very day.
Our theme for this year, and Paul’s words in Colossians, remind us to be rooted in Christ. Roots go deep, holding fast through storms and seasons. For 250 years, this congregation has been held firm — not by our own strength, but by the unshakable foundation of Jesus Christ.
As we mark this milestone, may we be reminded that our story is not only about the past — it is also about the present and the future. God has planted us, God is building us, and God is sending us forth as witnesses of His love.
Paul calls us to be overflowing with thankfulness, and that is what this anniversary is all about. We give thanks for the generations who have come before us, for the stories of God’s faithfulness in good times and hard times, and for the promise that the same Lord who sustained us for 250 years will continue to guide us into the future.
This year, and always, let us celebrate with gratitude, live with faith, and move forward in hope, rooted and built up in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Peace to you,
The Rev. John G. Rights
